What did it take?
- Inventory the site and for each section determine who maintained the content, where the content was located, and whether it was up-to-date, in use, and appropriate.
- Audit the site for coding issues, inappropriate graphic formats, broken links, and links pointing to network drives.
- Update critical information and re-build the navigation.
- Remove dead links, out-of-date and redundant pages.
- Bring networked documents into the web server environment, converting file formats as necessary.
- Simplify the page design and added new navigation.
- Create a style guide and policies for the use of the intranet.
- Prepare the site for transfer to SIMS.

TOCCAC Intranet cleanup
TOCCCAC had the largest intranet of any CCAC, accessed by 1000s of healthcare providers in the Greater Toronto Area on a daily basis. Produced and maintained internally without benefit of a content management system, their intranet had many problems that made it impossible to fold into the province wide SIMS extranet under construction at the time.
TOCCAC needed to clean up the site and maintain it for six months before the new implementation, without disrupting its use by healthcare workers.
The site contained dead links, out-of-date and redundant content and had lost coherence. Poor coding and links to documents on network drives made the TOCCAC intranet immovable. In only 4 months, C.R. Visuals instituted a set of policies regarding intranet content and cleaned up the content and code on the CCAC website so that it could be moved into SIMS.
