C.R. Visuals – Corporate Profile

C.R. Visuals is a graphics and new media company that offers a wide range of services in web design, multimedia and 3D modeling. Boasting an eclectic mix of personalities with a skill set that is unique, C.R. Visuals is on the leading edge of graphic design and corporate branding in the information age. Based in the high-tech capital of Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, C.R. Visuals has a rare combination of experience and originality that brings a wide range of services to an impressive client base – from small business start-ups to such Fortune 500 companies as Johnson & Johnson and Reebok.

Services include: graphics and illustration; 3D models and animations; corporate presentation materials (websites, newsletters, flyers, magazine ads, business cards, posters and banners); web design; photo retouching; and multimedia.

Founder Caroline de Gruchy embodies what makes this company different. With an M.A. in anthropology and a deep abiding interest in art and history, she carved out a successful career in publishing, technical writing and teaching before starting her own multimedia studio.

Few companies possess such a talent for 3D modeling and interactive content as C.R. Visuals, and combine it with website-development expertise which creates high-quality sites reflecting the corporate brand for a great many clients. Website services include consultation, training client staff, usability and website assessment, Intranet/internet cleanup, e-learning, and style guides.

Founded in 1993, C.R. Visuals essentially adds design to business, drawing upon the experience of true pioneers who were quick to grasp the culture of the Web. In 1998 C.R. Visuals brought in Clive Bilewitz, whose background in electronics and expertise in modeling opened up a new realm of 3D reconstructions. Over the past ten years the company has built an impressive 3D department with a staff of graphic artists, marketing consultants and programmers. Their varied backgrounds include everything from robotics, physics and history to videography and adult education. In short, the staff is second to none.

What kind of projects does C.R. Visuals do? It took the design for Colgate’s popular Lady Speed Stick by Mennen and developed a model in 3D, which was used to train the company’s sales force on the product. After producing a style guide for Liaison College, Ontario’s largest trainer of chefs, it was soon handling all of the organization’s marketing. It gave sales training a competitive edge at Quadro Engineering – a leader in the design and engineering of industrial, food-processing equipment – with high-definition animation of new products. And it continues to design corporate websites, including the Janssen-Ortho intranet and web portals such as Feed Your Passion.

In September the company will have a booth at the Inspiring Women Conference in Kitchener, which features Lady Sarah Ferguson as keynote speaker. But this won’t be any booth. C.R. Visuals will demo a 3D story about its office, including animations of staff, to show how it creates corporate marketing materials. This is definitely cutting-edge stuff, and that’s what C.R. Visuals is all about.

Caroline de Gruchy

Caroline de Gruchy is the founder and CEO of C.R. Visuals. She has effectively combined her passions for art, history and writing into a career that provides leading-edge, multimedia services. In 1993 she was asked by Bell Sygma to investigate the potential of the budding Internet. She filed a report and then started her own multimedia company that developed websites for business. Beginning with interactive experiences that were rich in graphics, she grew the business into a full-service, new media company with a varied clientele. Today C.R. Visuals is a graphics and new media company that offers a wide range of services in web design, multimedia and 3D modeling.

A native of Montreal, Caroline obtained her M.A. in anthropology from the University of Calgary, studied social anthropology at New York University, and also studied urban culture in Canada, Europe and Pakistan. Along the way she developed keen appreciation and knowledge for how people work and interact with their environment. Caroline has taught web design and new media at Humber College, the University of Toronto, and Conestoga College.

Clive Bilewitz

Clive Bilewitz is the 3D Production Manager at C.R. Visuals. He is a native of South Africa who was an electrician before coming to Canada in 1988 and studying electronics at the DeVry Institute of Technology. In the early ‘90s he was teaching desktop publishing, and began to develop his expertise in 3D. He soon found himself teaching 3D courses at Humber College where he met Caroline de Gruchy.

Clive joined C.R. Visuals in 1998 and helped build a dedicated department within the company that did 3D reconstructions of forensic scenes and material culture, which refers to the physical remains of a culture. These reconstructions are useful to such clients as law firms and museums. The 3D department also develops product conceptualizations for sales professionals of major corporations. Clive is one of the leading talents in Canada today in the field of 3D, and has been featured in the press and on television.
