Planning Your Website

Do you need a website?

More than ever, the answer is yes!

Even though word of mouth is the best way to spread the word about your products and services, a website is essential to most businesses.

Increasingly, the internet is the first place people look to find any product or service and it is where people go to validate your company. Not only will they check out your website, they will check you out by Googling, Facebooking and researching your reputation from information posted about you, online. In other words, they will ask around, like they always have, only now they ask their online friends.

You can’t control everything that is said about you on the web, but you can do 2 things to bolster your online reputation: build a website that supports the needs of your customers and monitor the rest.

Planning

We get a lot of requests from people asking us to build a website for their company. All too often the rationale is that “every company needs one.” The goal is, “lots of traffic.” As for the design and content, they want us to handle it. “Here’s our cheque, when will it be ready?”

So here’s our question: on the day you hired your accountant did you hand over your financials without explaining your business to her first? Did you ask your building contractor to design the layout of your office space without explaining what your company does or how many staff you have?

Every supplier needs detailed information about you and your company before they can give you their best service.

The first step to building a website is the plan and we won’t get far without one. Fortunately, we can help you make the crucial decisions that underlie your online presence.  We have 2 documents that you can have for free, to help you get started. The first talks about design and explains what we will be thinking about as we design your website. The second is a planning document that helps you decide how your site will look, what the content should be, and what your goals are for going online.
